Why Does CBM Require Compression?
Typically, CBM is extracted from the wellbore at relatively low pressures. In order to prepare CBM for entry into a natural gas sales pipeline, the gas will first have to enter a compressor unit. Depending on engineering requirements, some operators will locate compressors at each well site, others will situate compressors in field gathering systems as a centralized activity. As the pressure on the gas is increased through compression it will make its way to the company's field plant site where it will undergo compression once more to attain the necessary pressure requirements for commercial sales. The gas will then be ready for release into the sales pipeline.
New technologies have provided companies alternatives through which they can reduce noise and frequency of compressor stations. Speak to your operator to find out what they can do to reduce potential impacts.
